Belize, Putting Ideas into Practice with Inaugural Tournament

Under the leadership of Arturo Vasquez; the President, the Association held an Open Classification tournament on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st August 31, 2008 at the venue which had seen the formation of the body some six months earlier. Over forty players participated.
Group Format
The competition was organized on a group basis in the initial stages with players being drawn into four classes according to ability; the leading players progressed to the second stage to determine the final placing.
Over 180 matches were played before the final verdict was realized; a high number of matches which was most beneficial for those players with minimal experience of competitive play.
Everyone had the chance to play many matches and thus thoroughly enjoyed the well organized competition.
Ranking Scheme
Results from the tournament will be used by the Belize Table Tennis Association, to initiate a ranking system for its members.
The support given by both players and spectators, over the two day event indicates a positive response to the return of table tennis in Belize.
