Honors were shared between the competing associations in the cadet events at the El Salvador Junior Open when play concluded on Tuesday July 29, 2008. There were gold medals for Brazil, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Canada.

Brazilian gold came in the guise of Katia Kawai in the Cadet Girls' Singles event, while for Chile it was in the Cadet Boys' Doubles that the South American country gained honors. The top spot went to Gustavo Gomez and Manuel Moya.

Dominican Republic & Ecuador Join Forces
Meanwhile, for the Dominican Republic and Ecuador it was a case of joining forces, the former’s Eva Brito and the latter’s Astrid Salazar stood on the top step of the podium in the Girls’ Doubles event.

North American Success
Success for Latin American countries and for North America with Pierre-Luc Theriault taking the honors in the Cadet Boys’ Singles competition.

Seeded one, Pierre-Luc Theriault justified his top billing by beating Chile’s second seeded, Gustavo Gomes in the final while in the counterpart female event, Katia Kawai, also beat Chilean opposition.

She defeated Judith Morales.

Earlier Successes Endorsed
The victories of Pierre-Luc Theriault and Katia Kawai were further endorsements of the fact that they are names to be noted.

At the recent Pan American Junior Championships, Pierre-Luc Theriault had impressed against adversaries several years his senior; while at the Latin American Junior Championships, followed by the Colombian Junior Open, Katia Kawai had improved by the hour.

Chilean Doubles Win
Two defeats for Chile in the singles finals but no such sadness in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles final, where Gustavo Gomes and Mauel Moya defeated Brazil’s Eric Jouti and Colombia’s Andres Villamil.

Recovery in Closest Final
No need for a deciding game for the Chileans and it was the same for the singles winners but that was not the situation for Eva Brito and Astrid Salazar.

Winners of the Cadet Girls’ Team title earlier in the week, they recovered from a two games to one deficit in the final against Andrea Herrera and Reina Solis of Honduras to capture gold.
