Juan Antonio Vila & Ariel Hsing Crowned Panam Junior Champions

The Dominican Republic's Juan Antonio Vila and Ariel Hsing of the United States concluded matters in first place in the respective Boys' Singles and Girls' Singles events at the Stag Panam Junior Championships, which concluded in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Thursday July 10, 2008.

Both players impressed and recorded a series of consistent performances to conclude their schedule of matches with only one defeat against their names.

Juan Antonio Vila lost to Paraguay's Marcelo Aguirre, while for Ariel Hsing, the one defeat was at the hands of Canada's Shirley Yan.

Eight wins to their name in a final group of ten players saw the two rising stars emerge as clear winners but determining the remaining medal position was anything but clear.

Second Place for Chile
In the Boys' Singles event Chile's Felipe Olivares secured second place with six wins with no less than four players finishing with five wins each; meanwhile, in the counterpart female competition three players had seven wins to their name in the battle for a podium finish.

Four Players with Five Wins
The three defeats for Felipe Olivares came at the hands of Juan Antonio Vila, Colombia's Juan Restrepo and Canada's Pierre-Luc Theriault with next four places all being determined on games ratio.

After mathematical calculations, it was El Salvador's Josué Donado who secured the bronze medal position ahead of Juan Restrepo, Pier-Luc Hinse and Marcelo Aguirre.

Three Players Level on Wins
Meanwhile, in the Girls' Singles competition, Chile's Blanca Duran, Canada's Shirley Yan and Paraguay's Sandy Gavilan all concluded proceedings with seven wins each.

Shirley Yan secured second place with her two defeats being at the hands of Blanca Duran and El Salvador's Estefania Ramirios with Blanca Duran third and Sandy Gavilan fourth.

Blanca Duran lost to Sandy Gavilan and Ariel Hsing with Sandy Gavilan also suffering against Ariel Hsing and in opposition to Shirley Yan.
